Mouataz Alshaltouh /
Theater
Mouataz Alshaltouh began performing at the Maxim Gorki Theater while still studying at the renowned Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts. At the same time, he worked at independent theaters such as the Fleetstreet Theater in Hamburg, to explore social issues that resonate with him through his art. His electrifying solo performance 'Im Herzen tickt eine Bombe' ('A Bomb is Ticking in My Heart'), which tells of escape and war, of growing up in exile, and of a liberating new beginning in life, was hailed by critics and audiences alike. Der Tagesspiegel wrote: 'Mouataz Alshaltouh is the ideal casting choice. At the center is this human being, raising his voice to say: Here is a human being. A human being like all of us.'
The actor demonstrates a remarkable sensitivity for the fragile emotional worlds of his characters, portraying them with an exceptional maturity. His nuanced exploration of their inner lives gives his roles a convincing sense of individuality and emotional truth. His highly differentiated approach to acting and his sensitive onstage presence have established him as one of the most outstanding and sought-after actors of his generation. Immediately after completing his studies, Mouataz Alshaltouh was engaged by Theater Dortmund and joined the ensemble of the Schauspielhaus Zurich shortly thereafter. This led to collaborations with directors who are significantly shaping contemporary theater such as Pınar Karabulut and Rafael Sanchez, whose productions have been invited to the German Theatertreffen.
